The Fairbanks Pirate Festival will not be happening again. It went over poorly. Not enough participation for the effort that went into it. I heard that Anchorage took my idea and it went over pretty well down there.

The Great River Water Battle Where: Graehl Park to Pioneer Park When: Sunday, September 19 from 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm INFO: Free, All Ages. Graehl Park to Pioneer Park. Must have your own boat or raft. Acceptable weapons: Squirt Guns, Water Cannons, Super-Soakers, Water Guns. No water balloons since we are against polluting Alaskan waters. We suggest having something warm to change into after the water battle.

Scalawag Ball Where: Pioneer Park Dance Hall When: Sunday, September 19 from 8:00 pm to 12:00 am (Midnight) INFO: *Costume Required * $20 a pirate! Food, Drink, Dancing!!! No costume = No entry. We are firm on this. T-shirt and jeans – even a pirate t-shirt – is NOT acceptable. YES, JIMBO, THERE WILL BE CONTESTS AT THE BALL!

There will be 3 contests at the Scalawag Ball!  There will be prizes!

Costume Contest – Best Man, Best Woman, Best Couple
Pirate Joke – Give us your best pirate joke and we let the crowd decide.
Pirate Poet – Lewd, crude, salty, swashbuckling poetry. You’ll have up to a minute to deliver your best pirate poem. We recommend you stick to 4-8 lines of poetry.

In order to help you prepare for these, we have a selection of youtube videos for you to peruse!  We’ll start with some jokes and then move onto some poetry.  Feel free to post any videos that you find!

Tickets Now Available!

If you’re looking for a ticket or two to the Scalawag Ball, you can now purchase them at the Cat’s Meow, Red Couch, or Chartreuse!  $20 a ticket.  It includes dancing, food, and more!

There will be contests at the ball including a costume contest.

Cat’s Meow – 3rd & Lacey St  (Next to Big Rays)

Red Couch – 2nd & Dunkle (kattycorner from American Tire)

Chartreuse – 1st & Wickersham (next to Big Daddy’s BBQ)

Also keep an ear open for radio giveaways coming soon!  KSUA, KXLR, and perhaps even CHET-FM.  Giveaways will probably happen the M-F before the Pirate Festival…but you never know.

By Decree From The Queen….

The Fairbanks Pirate Festival is on!   We have four events going on over the weekend of the 18th & 19th!  Feel free to attend all that you wish to!

You don’t have to have a pirate costume to participate in most of the events, but it is encouraged.  I can’t promise that those of you lame landlubbers who wear your regular day clothes will be safe from taunting from the arrr-some pirates who wear pirate costumes.  Fair warning folks.  Dress up and have a better time!

The Scalawag Ball is the only function that REQUIRES you to wear a costume.  T-Shirt & Jeans – even a pirate t-shirt – is not a costume!  We want to see pirates, wenches, swashbucklers, sea witches, mermaids, peg-legged henchmen, and more!  Be creative.  There will be a costume contest at the ball.

Look for videos and other fun stuff here on the blog.  We want to encourage you guys to get in the whole spirit of things!
